EOTC recount
Finally Bigfoot is here on Thursday in our school. My heart had started to beat, I was really excited for the EOTC activity that I had been waiting for, the rock climbing wall. Suddenly I couldn’t resist but say “OMG that is such a tall wall”. Some of my classmates and Rm 7 students had said “it looks hard to climb”. My groups name was called ‘Hoiho’. We listened to the instructions then quickly lined up. I had tried to be near the front. I was very nervous, my heart was pumping faster every second, finally it was time to face the big rock wall. It seemed like I had been waiting in line for several hours but it was actually only 5 minutes. Rueben our instructor called me up to put my harness on, I had hoped the filthy rain wouldn’t come.
My harness was on me and it hurt me because it was to tight on the side. I could see people trying to figure out where they should put their body on the rock wall.I could see people finishing their third turn and going to the back of the line again. The line wasn’t very long. I was waiting for someone to finish climbing the wall I wanted to go on. Clip! It was my turn to go on the wall, an adult clipped the carabiner on my harness, I said to myself “Yay it’s my turn”. The wall felt as rough as sand, I moved my way up the rock wall.
I was climbing the hardest one so during the climb I had to think a lot about my movements. I could hear others talking, my heart beat and I could see the mountain bikers going up and down their course. I loved the smell up there, I could smell fresh air and nature, I could hear people from the school search say “hi” and “oh look come I found it”. When I got to the top I was very happy that I made it up there without falling, I could taste the sweetness of achievement it felt so good. I had fun going down the wall, it felt as if I was flying and at the same time I was worried I said to myself it’s ok you won’t fall. I still had 2 turns left until I had to go to the back of the line so I thought I should make the most of it. The second time I climbed up I wasn’t as scared as I was when I had my first turn because I knew I was safe. When I went up there it was the same as before except the wall was easier to climb. Time passes very quick before I knew it I was on the rock wall again, it was a long and tiring day “but”, I had lots of fun.
